Footballer Erik Schouten leaves the Eredivisie behind and returns to the first division

Willem II is the new club of defender Erik Schouten. The former player of FC Volendam leaves SC Cambuur after three seasons and will play with the Tilburgers. It is a striking step, because Willem II was relegated from the Eredivisie last season.

The 30-year-old Schouten comes transfer-free from SC Cambuur. At the Eredivisie club from Leeuwarden, he was a basic player and even captain last season. His contract was not extended, however, because the two parties did not agree.

“Willem II is a big club and has a premier league appearance. The loyal following ensures a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium every time. I am really looking forward to starting and am extremely proud of the confidence I get from the club” , according to the North Hollander in the press release

The defender, born in Westwoud, previously played for FC Volendam for seven seasons. Three years ago he moved to Cambuur. Schouten previously went through the youth academy of AZ.
