Funny round at MagentaTV: Moderator Johannes B. Kerner makes fun of Tom Kaulitz. Jürgen Klopp adds later.

It was still early on Thursday when Johannes B. Kerner greeted the German fans from the Aztec Stadium at the start of the World Cup. Kerner moderates the games for the MagentaTV channel. The company has hired an illustrious group of experts especially for the World Cup, including ex-Bayern striker Thomas Müller, Jürgen Klopp and Tokio Hotel star Tom Kaulitz.

The opening ceremony and the first game of the 2026 World Cup in the sold-out arena were to follow later in the afternoon (local time) in Mexico City. Co-hosts Mexico won relatively safely 2-0 against outsiders South Africa.

So the round was in the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City, and Kerner introduced: “The MagentaTV World Cup team is at the start.” The 61-year-old then introduced those present. “With a world champion,” Kerner pointed to Müller. “With a world coach,” Kerner pointed to Klopp. “And with an intern,” the moderator pointed to the musician Tom Kaulitz.

For those who don’t know: Kaulitz is not only one of the biggest German pop stars, he is also one of the most successful German-speaking podcasters and Heidi Klum’s husband. Kerner’s cheeky performance caused great amusement, especially among Müller and Klopp. “Wow,” said Müller, turning to the moderator, “I didn’t see him coming.” Klopp laughed up his sleeve. And Kaulitz? He stayed cool. “Great intro,” he said mischievously to Kerner.

Kerner later struck a more conciliatory tone by inviting Kaulitz to the MagentaTV studio in New York to take over the moderation there. “I would like to do it, yes,” said the 36-year-old musician. To which Klopp added: “Then you have to make sure that I don’t fall asleep.”
