Football: Unterhaching suffered its first defeat of the season against Bielefeld

As of: September 23, 2023 9:34 a.m

SpVgg Unterhaching suffered a defeat for the first time of the season on the seventh matchday of the 3rd league. A controversial scene caused hate comments on social media, goalkeeper René Vollath countered this with a strong statement.

The hosts went into matchday seven as one of three teams that were still unbeaten in the current season. At the start of the season, Marc Unterberger’s team had two wins and four draws. That should change in Friday’s game (9/22/23) against Arminia Bielefeld. The guests rewarded themselves with a narrow 2-1 win for their hard work in the Unterhaching sports park.

“In the end it’s obviously bitter, of course I have to keep the ball,” admitted goalkeeper René Vollath self-critically. But you have to say: “We weren’t really dangerous in front of the goal today. A point for both teams would have been okay.” So of course you are disappointed.

Bielefeld strikes first

After the SpVgg initially seemed more aggressive, the Bielefeld team got better and better into the game. The lead by Kaito Mizuta (28th) was well deserved. Noah Sarenren Bazee directed Mizuta. He picked up speed towards the penalty area and sent a powerful low shot into the box from a half-right position from 20 meters.

SpVgg goalkeeper René Vollath made a long stretch, but was no longer able to get to the ball. It landed in the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. Haching, on the other hand, had no real chance to score. In the 39th minute, Vollath was also lucky that his foul on Fabian Klos in the penalty area was not punished.

Stiefler brings the mood back

Manuel Stiefler then brought the atmosphere back to the sports park in the 67th minute. Unterberger had shown a lucky hand and substituted the 35-year-old shortly before. Simon Skarlatidis then took a corner high into the Arminia penalty area. Stiefler was immediately there and headed the ball perfectly into the net from eight meters. But Bielefeld stuck with it and took the lead again in the 89th minute. Leandro Putaro scored to make it 2-1 for the guests.

Fan anger over Vollath’s penalty area scene

After the duel, Vollath spoke out emotionally about hateful comments online that had reached his wife under family photos during the game. It was about the foul on Fabian Klos in the 39th minute. However, the referee did not see a penalty. Klos and Vollath, on the other hand, received yellow cards for complaining.

“What unbelievable insults” came from Bielefeld fans. “I have to say, it’s crazy.” And Klos also warned for what he saw as a “big show” in the scene in question: “You have to think about what kind of external representation you are asking for,” said Vollath. “Despite all the joy and love for the game, something like that is underground and not possible at all.”
