The SV De Braak football team from Helmond is not allowed to take action for two weeks. The reason is the serious abuse last weekend at a football field in Veldhoven. A referee was beaten unconscious during the match between the fourth team of SV Rood-Wit and the visiting third team of SV De Braak from Helmond.

The KNVB says that the SV De Braak team has received an administrative measure. It is about the ‘sportiness and respect’ measure. He means, among other things, that the team is not allowed to play for two weeks.

It went wrong last Saturday shortly before the end of the game. From the kick -off, according to the police, the atmosphere was ‘grim’, towards the end of the game, the flame hit the pan. A few people went to get a story from the referee. The referee was thereby mistreated in such a way that he became unconscious.

According to an eyewitness, a violation in the injury time would have been the reason for an upset. “In addition, the players pushed and pulled back and again. The referee was at some distance from the tangle of players when he was beaten by a spectator,” an eyewitness told Omroep Brabant.

The referee, a 70-year-old man, has sustained a slight concussion and is struggling with a balance disorder. “I didn’t see him coming,” said the referee on Tuesday. “There was unrest on the field and I had given a red card. Suddenly I got a blow from behind.” Then it became black. “According to bystanders, I have been out of consciousness for five to ten minutes.”

Both club presidents announced that they would reject the violence after the incident. They both admit their cooperation in the investigation of the police. The chairman of SV De Braak adds that the man who has beaten is not a member of his football club.
