Two sisters and the former lawyer of the Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona come to court due to alleged fraud.
As Argentine media reported, citing the court ruling, the defendants are said to have cheated the children of the ex-football star died in 2020. The reason is the alleged illegal appropriation of the name Maradona for commercial purposes.
Neither the lawyer Matías Morla nor Maradona’s sisters Rita and Claudia have been appointed to heirs, according to the decision on which the newspaper “La Nación” is referred to. After his death, the entire estate of Diego Maradona passed into the possession of his children who submitted the lawsuit.
Seilings in the millions
In this case, it is about business a company that managed trademark rights. A total of six people were accused. As a preventive measure, the court confiscated two billion pesos (EUR 1.15 million) by each defendant.
Maradona died of heart failure in November 2020 at the age of 60 – a few weeks after an operation because of a blood clot in the brain. The public prosecutor accuses the responsible medical personnel of rough failures in the care.
This criminal process must be recorded again. Because of a scandal for a responsible judge, the first proceedings had been declared void at the end of May after around two and a half months.
