Günter Netzer is dedicated to a special exhibition in the German Football Museum. At the opening it is highly emotional – and cries.

The exhibition about Günter Netzer’s football life has noticeably moved the former playmaker. In Dortmund, the memory of old companions and special stations hit him in the heart. “I was killed,” said the 80-year-old when he first saw the multimedia special exhibition in the German Football Museum. “This exhibition presents things from me that touched me deeply.”

At the opening of the special exhibition entitled “Netzer – The 1970s”, the enthusiastic networker told anecdotes from his time as a player at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Real Madrid and in the German national team. Several former teammates, Netzer’s wife and daughter and other companions had traveled extra.

And was also taken care of. In a relaxed atmosphere, Netzer shared some personal memories that were well received by the audience. The 1972 European champion remembered how he was once persuaded to visit a hairdresser – with a surprising result. “I didn’t recognize myself anymore,” said Netzer. The constant wave was so embarrassing “that they defaced me so much”.
