South Korea’s key player is So-yun Ji, number 10 – with 66 goals in 144 internationals, the playmaker brings a wealth of experience to the table and is by far the best player in her country. The midfielder was under contract with Chelsea FC for several years and won numerous national titles with the Blues. Two other Koreans in the squad have international experience in Tottenham Hotspur’s So-hyun Cho and Madrid CFF’s Young-ju Lee. The World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is South Korea’s fourth appearance, with a place in the round of 16 in 2015 being their best performance to date.

South Korea’s coach Collin Bell is a very experienced coach in women’s football on the bench: the Englishman, for example, led FFC Frankfurt to victory in the UEFA Champions League in 2015! He has been on the bench of the Korean team since 2019, is the nation’s first foreign coach and has already achieved a small respectable success with second place at the AFC Asian Cup 2022. At the last World Cup in France, however, the tournament was over quickly for South Korea after three defeats in the group phase.
