The German Football Association (DFB) is distributing 2.95 million euros to the third division teams – that was the result of the calculations for the youth funding pot for the past season, as the DFB announced on Monday.

The biggest beneficiary is 1860 Munich (475,140 euros) ahead of MSV Duisburg (421,163 euros) and 1. FC Saarbrücken (364,394 euros).

Cologne and Essen also in the six-digit range

Viktoria Köln (317,118 euros) and Rot-Weiss Essen (201,812 euros) are also among the top 6 recipients, while SC Verl has to be content with 8,934 euros.

For legal reasons, the grants may only flow into the non-profit sector of the clubs, the use of funds is earmarked for the promotion of young people.

No funding for U23 teams from Bundesliga clubs

There is no money for SC Freiburg II and Borussia Dortmund II. According to the DFB, second teams from licensed clubs are excluded from the income from the youth funding pot in the 3rd division – as well as from central TV marketing and the rewards from financial fair play.

When calculating the payouts, two criteria are decisive: the existence of a performance center or a performance center that has been applied for, and the playing times of players in the 3rd division with German nationality who are under 21 years of age.
