In a game of over long distances, the Mainz is struggling against the Cyprical league leader for a long time, but ultimately rewarded themselves for great effort.

The 1. FSV Mainz 05 won 1-0 (0-0) in the first game of the league in the Conference League near Omonia Nikosia. The goal of the day scored Nadiem Amiri in the 74th minute.

With the Mainzers who were involved last weekend 0: 2 against Borussia Dortmund had lostsurprisingly, the only 17-year-old central defender Kacper Potulski was in the starting line-up. The Polish U21 international has not yet played for a minute in the Bundesliga.

The Rheinhessen started with a lot of vigor, and Nicola Veratschnig came to the first end in the 2nd minute, which, however, came too harmless. Three minutes later, the 1,500 Mainz fans kept their breath away when Nikosias Ryan Mmaee appeared freely in front of goalkeeper Robin Zentner. However, the hit does not count because the Moroccan had been in the offside when passing. On the other hand, the agile Arnaud Nordin had the chance, but his shot from seven meters made Francis Uzoho no problems (6th).

Game between Nikosia and Mainz loses speed

Nikosia replied with a massive right shot by Giannis Masouras, but hundredweight was able to ward off the ball to the corner (8th). The teams met at eye level, but there was a lot of chances on both sides for the time being. In addition, the pace of the first quarter of an hour evaporated a little because Hüben, like over there, took astimm.

It took up to the 33rd minute before it became dangerous again. Nikosias Willy Semedo was played in the penalty area, turned and pulled off – just past the long post. Shortly afterwards the Mainz almost cheered. Nordin brought a short corner of the corner to the center, the ball flew past the friend and enemy past the left post (36th).

The campaign gave some tailwind for the final phase of the first half. Philipp Mwene offered an even better opportunity, who could have accommodated a north in the flank of a few meters in the practically empty gate. But the Austrian took the ball complicated with the right instead of the left foot chance (44.).

Second half starts without big highlights

The teams went into the second section without a change. The course of the game was initially similar from the first half. Both the 05 and Nicosia tried to play forward, but without the sparkling ideas about the opponent’s penalty area.

As before the break, the Mainz gained an overweight, but it was not really dangerous for keeper Uzoho. At the same time, the Rheinhessen consistently defended the attacks and counterattacks of the Cyprians. Up to the 70th minute, both teams were neutralized, then Nikosias Stefan Simic was released in the penalty area, which, however, ended too harmless from a promising position.

Amiri ice cold from the point

Shortly afterwards, Benedict Hollerbach celebrated his comeback with the Mainz. The attacker, who suffered a muscle injury on the first Bundesliga game day, replaced Armindo Sieb. Two minutes later, cheers burned up in the Mainz fan block. Kaishu Sano had been brought down by Saad Agouzoul, referee Milos Milanovic from Serbia pointed to the point. Nadiem Amiri did not take the chance and scored the lead.

At the subsequent jubilation, some supporters of the hosts burned the fuses. Objects flew towards the cheering Mainz. A drinks cup met the substitute Ben Bobzien on the neck that went to the ground. The impartial reacted promptly and sent the teams into the cabins for a short time. When the minds had calmed down, the game could be continued.

The hosts had to loosen the defensive in the final phase, but could not set a big accents in the attack. Until the end of the seven -minute stoppage time, it remained with the tight success of the Mainz, which is completely okay due to the game.
