    6:35 p.m

The game continues in the second half with a new man each. The slightly injured Ritzka apparently didn’t survive the first half so well and is replaced by Boukhalfa. For the guests, the yellow-stricken Shepherd stays in the dressing room and Bénes should ensure more creativity and a goal threat.

    Kick-off of the 2nd half

  • 45.

    6:19 p.m

    Half-time conclusion:
Storks ended the first half on time, after which FC St. Pauli deservedly led 1-0 against Union Berlin! The Kiezkickers needed 25 minutes in which they concentrated on defensive work and were very compact at the back in order to also get on the offensive. As the game went on, the Blessin team gained more and more courage and created chances every minute. After a sparkling clean move, Guilavogui took the lead, which could easily be increased afterwards. Eggestein missed several good opportunities so that Union Berlin was still fully in the game. However, the Köpenickers need an increase in performance; the harmless Baumgart team isn’t doing much yet.

    End of 1st half

  • 44.

    6:15 p.m

Hollerbach gets to the ball on the right side of the penalty area, goes past two players and looks for a shot from twelve meters. It fails completely, the ex-Wiesbadener hits more grass than the ball. So it spins harmlessly out of the goal two meters from the box.

  • 43.

    6:14 p.m

Eggestein misses the next big opportunity! Diogo Leite gives the ball to him in his own penalty area. From the right corner of the penalty area, Saliakas crosses strongly to the far post where Eggestein is completely blank, but the ball doesn’t really hit at all from three meters and a somewhat acute angle. This creates a cross pass that finds no taker.

  • 41.

    18:12

St. Pauli has the next corner from the right – and again it’s extremely dangerous! This time Weißhaupt gives the ball flat towards the penalty spot where Eggestein is completely free. The striker doesn’t get enough of the ball so Doekhi can block and clear. There was a lot more in it!

  • 39.

    6:10 p.m

Union has big problems finding playful solutions with the ball against densely packed neighborhood players. So Doekhi again chooses the long ball to Hollerbach, which also reaches the attacker, but it is directly set by two men.

  • 37.

    6:08 p.m

The Köpenick team can’t get the ball out of it. After a lot of poking at the five-pointer, Kemlein threshed the ball out of the danger zone.

  • 36.

    6:07 p.m

Saliakas crosses strongly from the right halffield to the five-pointer and looks for Irvine. He would be there but Doekhi gets to the ball first and clears it with his head for a corner.

  • 35.

    6:06 p.m

    Andras Schäfer

Yellow card for András Schäfer (1. FC Union Berlin)

Tactical foul near the halfway line.

  • 34.

    6:05 p.m

Once again, Skov finds Doekhi’s head from the left, but under heavy pressure, he heads it well over the St. Pauli goal.

  • 33.

    6:05 p.m

Hollerbach plucks a long ball down the edge of the box while Ritzka slips. He comes up quickly and just barely bothers the Union player when he finishes from eleven meters to the left. Vasilj is there and fends off the unplaced left-footed shot for a corner.

  • 31.

    18:02

    Morgan Guilavogui

Tooor for FC St. Pauli, 1-0 by Morgan Guilavogui

And courage is rewarded! This is beautifully played. St. Pauli wins the ball on the halfway line before things go quickly. Eggestein lets the ball drip with his back to the goal while Guilavogui is already starting. He gets the ball from Irvine perfectly, takes it quickly and hits it impressively and powerfully under the crossbar into the near corner from a twelve-meter half-right position.

  • 30.

    6:00 p.m

After a very cautious initial phase, the Kiezkickers have gained courage and now have more confidence.

  • 29.

    6:00 p.m

St. Pauli is getting stronger. Irvine comes to the ball on the half-right, goes past Diogo Leite and aims for the short corner from a 14-meter half-right position. Schwolow parries away to the side, the following corner remains harmless.

  • 27.

    5:59 p.m

Guilavogui hits the crossbar! Eggestein takes a corner against crossfield near the right corner flag. Weißhaupt brings it into the penalty area where Sands heads the ball towards the goal and Guilavogui extends it with his foot from five meters to the top edge of the crossbar. Then the flag goes up, but Guilavogui was not offside. He would probably have counted even if Eggestein, right next to him, had started too early but didn’t really intervene.

  • 25.

    5:56 p.m

The following free kick from Ritzka was taken far too far and could not be reached by any teammate.

  • 24.

    5:55 p.m

Doekhi stops Weißhaupt in midfield illegally, Storks leaves it with a final warning. Irvine protests loudly and would have liked to see the first yellow card.

  • 23.

    17:53

The Köpenickers find it difficult to develop speed and ideas when in possession of the ball, while St. Pauli concentrates on defensive work. So it’s an uneventful game that continues to wait for its first half chance out of the game.

  • 20.

    5:50 p.m

This brings Skov perfectly to the five. Doekhi rises the highest, but puts the ball with a lot of force a good meter centrally over the goal.

  • 19.

    5:50 p.m

Hollerbach penetrates the left side of the penalty area to the baseline and is closely guarded by Nemeth, who can block for a corner.

  • 18.

    5:48 p.m

They play Ritzka and Weißhaupt briefly, but the subsequent cross is weak and ends up in the arms of Schwolow.

  • 17.

    5:48 p.m

Doekhi misuses the ball near the sideline against Weißhaupt and then draws the foul. He takes the subsequent free kick into the box where a Union player gets to the ball but can only extend it to a corner.

  • 15.

    5:46 p.m

After winning the ball, St. Pauli quickly switches to the left wing until Weißhaupt moves into the middle and shoots flat from 17 meters. Diogo Leite is in the firing line and nips the shot in the bud.

  • 14.

    5:45 p.m

Union has more possession in the early stages, but usually only lets the ball circulate around the center circle.

  • 11.

    5:42 p.m

Juranović tries a long throw in from the right side, which Weißhaupt intercepts before the first Union player in the penalty area.

  • 9.

    5:40 p.m

So far, both of them haven’t played particularly purposefully forward, so there’s a classic “feeling” in the initial phase. As expected, it is not yet a footballing treat.

  • 6.

    5:37 p.m

Skov circles it from the right to the five-pointer where St. Pauli has the air sovereignty and Eggestein heads the ball out – but back into Skov’s foot. This time he crosses to the second post. There are a lot of players there, and in the end Irvine hits a return out of the danger zone.

  • 5.

    5:36 p.m

A loss of the ball from Ritzka’s own box is not punished for the time being, the defender makes up for his mistake and clears it against Hollerbach for a corner.

  • 4.

    5:35 p.m

Union is awarded a first free kick in the right half field. Skov tries directly from a good 22 meters, but puts the ball harmlessly two meters centrally above Vailj’s box.

  • 3.

    5:34 p.m

Union presses high when the opponent has the ball and also sets up the last defensive chain on the halfway line. Things are a little different at St. Pauli, who only stop shortly before the halfway line and are very compact in their own half.

  • 1.

    5:31 p.m

The guests kick off, Irvine heads a long ball from Doekhi straight back out.

    Game start

  • 5:29 p.m

In the atmospheric stadium at Millerntor, Sören Starks will referee the game and will be accompanied by linesmen Thorben Siewer and Guido Kleve. Robert Hartmann acts as VAR assistant in the Cologne basement. Union captain Doekhi wins the choice of seating, and the Berliners will soon toast in front of a sold-out house. Have fun!

  • 5:20 p.m

St. Pauli and Union Berlin know each other very well from the 2nd league – but this is the first year that the two clubs have met in Germany’s top division. In the first half of the season, the Köpenickers won 1-0 at the Alte Försterei thanks to a Hollerbach goal. The 2022 DFB Cup quarter-finals, also in Berlin, also went to Union (2-1). The FCSP’s last home game against the Berliners dates back to the 2018/2019 2nd league season when the Kiezkickers won 3-2 against the later promoted team.

  • 5:10 p.m

On the other hand, Baumgart also expects an intense duel: “Like us, they are a team with a high willingness to run, which is why it will be an intense duel in which the little things will be decisive.” In his fourth game as Union coach, the head coach will still have to do without regular goalkeeper Rønnow; Schwolow will replace him, as he did in the last four Bundesliga games. Compared to the 2-1 win against Mainz, Baumgart sees no reason for changes. Querfeld, Diogo Leite and Doekhi form the three-man chain while Hollerbach and Siebatcheu are supposed to cause danger up front. When Rothe returns from the red card, he initially sits on the bench.

  • 5:00 p.m

St. Pauli coach Blessin emphasizes in advance the great opportunity to take a big step: “I expect a high intensity and a game that demands everything from us. It’s time for us to win a second game in a row. We want to catch up with them in the table. That would be a nice thing.” After a long break, the head coach can call on Saad again, who comes off the bench. The potential regular players Smith (yellow suspension), Mets and Metcalfe (both injured) are missing, as is Dźwigała after his red card in Bochum. Blessin only made one change to the starting line-up after the 2-0 win in Heidenheim: Ritzka replaced Smith in the defensive back three. The two winter newcomers Sands and Weißhaupt are in the starting lineup for the second time in a row.

  • 16:52

The start of the year with new coach Steffen Baumgart at Union Berlin was similar. In Heidenheim and against Augsburg (0:2 each) the Köpenickers remained pointless and goalless. The Berliners remained without a win in their eleventh competitive game in a row, but were able to turn things around in the home game against Mainz last Sunday (2-1) and secure three important points in the relegation battle. Union is in 13th place with 20 points and has a comfortable cushion of six points over Heidenheim in 16th place. With a three-pointer in Hamburg, the Baumgart team could even quietly move up and shorten the gap to neighbors Augsburg to two points.

  • 4:40 p.m

FC St. Pauli started the year extremely unhappy and unfavorably with two 0-1 defeats against Frankfurt and Bochum. At the end of the English week, the Kiezkickers already averted the short negative trend when they achieved an immensely important and emotional 2-0 win against their direct rivals from Heidenheim. The Hamburg team, who have only scored five points at home, want to take their self-confidence with them against their next direct competitor in the relegation battle. With a three-pointer, St. Pauli could extend its lead over the relegation spot to six points and over the first relegation spot to eight points.

  • 4:30 p.m

Welcome to the final duel of the 19th matchday between FC St. Pauli and 1. FC Union Berlin! Kick-off in the neighborhood is at 5:30 p.m.
