After the draw at FC St. Pauli, Bayer 04 Leverkusen has only theoretical chances of the championship. The frustration is great.

It was rather unlikely that Bayer 04 Leverkusen could repeat another season like the past. A Bundesliga season without defeat, including master shell, winning the DFB Cup and the only bankruptcy bankruptcy in the final of the Europa League. However, it was not the plan that this is followed by a completely titled season.

In the DFB Cup, the Werkself embarrassed Arminia Bielefeld in the semi-finals against third division team. In the Champions League, this came out in the round of 16 against FC Bayern Munich. And even in the Bundesliga, Bayer will probably have to let Bavaria go for the way.

Bavaria can be champion at the weekend

The 1-1 on Sunday evening at Kellerkind FC St. Pauli was simply not enough. The league leader from Munich is eight points, with four outstanding games. The next weekend, Bayern could make their 34th German championship clear. Provided the FCB wins its home game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Leverkusen does not get three points against FC Augsburg.

Jonathan Tah did not yet want to congratulate Bayern on the championship: “We are trying to win everything. We try to take all the points with us that we can take with us and in the end we will see what comes out,” said the central defender after the game on St. Pauli.

Tah confirms goodbye from Leverkusen

The next four games will be the last Tah’s last games in the Bayer 04 Leverkusen jersey. The international announced his no longer surprising farewell from Leverkusen on Sunday. “There was a time when I made the decision not to extend my contract and not stay here. It stays that way now,” he says.

Tah’s teammate Patrik Schick, on the other hand, is no longer so optimistic about the chances of the championship: “We have to be honest, it is ending for us,” said the Czech of the Sports Show. “Unfortunately, this season is not easier than the last.”

Schick: “Did the chance played out early”

Schick also knows, who put Bayer against St. Pauli in the lead that the Werkself did not lose the championship on St. Pauli. “We played the chance early,” he said. Results like 2: 2 at home against Kiel on the sixth dire day or the 1-1 in Bochum on the tenth matchday came as a surprise. The 0-2 against Werder Bremen on match day 25, which lay between the two Champions League games against Bayern, was also annoying.

The also disappointing 0-0 against Union Berlin in the previous week and now the 1-1 on St. Pauli were ultimately too little in order to be able to intervene decisively in the championship fight.

Alonso criticized too many draws

“We have too many draws this season – that’s why the lead is so big,” said coach Xabi Alonso and said with a view to the championship fight: “It is not over mathematically, but we know that we almost have no chance”.

In the pre -season, the Werkelf was primarily distinguished by being able to win even later in added time. This played too rarely this season, which in the end was also a force question. “We have already played a lot of games this season. You have noticed that we lack the energy on the pitch to win such games (as in St. Pauli, note of the red),” said Schick. “If you want to win the Bundesliga, you have to win such games. We haven’t played the last three games well.”

If the runner -up had been a success a few years ago, the demands in Leverkusen have increased after the previous season. “I find it very difficult to say that a second place is good,” Tah became clear. “Our claim was different and at least we wanted to be closer. That hurts extremely.”
