Darmstadt, as first in the table, now has 48 points after 21 games, it’s a record with which you can definitely get promoted. Rostock has half as many points with 24, is still enough for eleventh place, four points ahead of relegation place 16.

Darmstadt has trouble – and the best chance

Darmstadt initially had difficulties with the opponent from Rostock. Hansa ran a lot and often cleverly, they won many duels and once they were unlucky when a shot by Kevin Schumacher was only centimeters short (35th).

Darmstadt had the best chance of the first half, and it was their only chance. Mathias Honsak let several Rostockers drop out in dribbling, the movements, the technique – everything was right. Almost everything, because Hansa goalkeeper Markus Kolke parried his low shot, which is worth seeing (45 + 2).

Darmstadt’s Mehlem meets aluminium

From then on, Darmstadt played like a sovereign leader – and almost took the lead. It was the 54th minute when Marvin Mehlem hit the crossbar with a shot from 16 meters, this time Kolke would have had no chance either. The preliminary work came from Honsak.

When Darmstadt had the next chance to take the lead seven minutes later, Mehlem was involved again, this time providing the assist. Tietz got his cross pass through Rostock’s penalty area at the far post, only he didn’t put the ball into the goal from close range, he pushed it wide.

Tietz hits a free kick

But Tietz got another chance and this time he took it. Tietz was fouled in a Darmstadt attack and then took the free kick himself. And how he did it: with power and precision, he brought the ball to the long corner, Rostock’s goalkeeper Kolke flew, but he flew in vain.
