On Friday evening (22.07.22), veteran Rouwen Hennings shot Fortuna Düsseldorf to victory against SC Paderborn and to the top of the table in the 2nd division.
Dawid Kownacki gave the hosts an early lead (2′). Felix Platte equalized midway through the first half (21′), but Rouwen Hennings restored the old lead after half an hour.
In the second part of the game, the SCP presented itself at least as strong as Fortuna, but without being able to equalize or even score the winning goal in the game with few chances but very much emphasis on fighting.
Conteh forgives early leadership of the SCP
Both coaches did not change their starting formations after the successful start to the season. Paderborn, first leaders of the new season after beating Karlsruher SC 5-0 last week, missed a good chance to take the lead after just a few seconds through newcomer Sirlord Conteh and got the cold shower: Kownacki scored ice-cold after work from Shinta Appelkamp.
Both teams then acted with open visors, Hennings countered Platte’s equalizer from close range. After the change of sides, the game flattened out a bit, Düsseldorf concentrated on counterattacking and brought the home win over time.
SC Paderborn has to play against Hannover 96 on the 3rd matchday on Saturday (06.08.2022), Fortuna Düsseldorf is already playing at SV Sandhausen on Friday.
