Foo Fighters perform at 2023 Rock am Ring and Rock im Park

The following news is like a small scoop for the organizers of Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, who have recently been hit by (self-inflicted) negative headlines: The Foo Fighters will appear exclusively as headliners at both festivals.

This is a sensation because the band’s future has been uncertain in recent months: their drummer Taylor Hawkins died in March 2022 at the age of 50. At the end of the year, Dave Grohl and company declared that they would carry on without him even if their band would never be the same. It is still unclear who will fill the vacant position on drums. The most likely one right now is that it could be Rufus Taylor, son of Queens Roger Taylor.

The Foo Fighters last performed at both festivals in 2018, back then with Hawkins. The shows that have now been confirmed mark their only confirmed headlining appearances in Europe so far, and according to the press release, it should stay that way. Die Toten Hosen and Kings of Leon were previously announced as further headliners.

Other newcomers to the festival line-up include Five Finger Death Punch, Thees Uhlmann, Bad Wolves, Cari Cari, Steel Panther, Yonaka, Pabst, Dienerve, Sam Tompkins, Mod Sun and Blond.

A few days ago, the organizers announced that they would not let the band Pantera perform as planned after all. They were criticized because singer Phil Anselmo performed the Nazi salute and promoted “white power” in 2016.
