Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was ‘burdened by busy tour life’ | show

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March, is said to have previously indicated that he was burdened by the busy tour life. He is said to have told Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron “that he can’t do it anymore”, according to a profile published today by Rolling Stone magazine, which interviewed 20 sources around Hawkins.

According to Pearl Jam drummer Cameron, Hawkins and frontman Dave Grohl would have made “some sort of agreement”, but the tour schedule would have “only gotten crazier after that.”

Friends of the drummer explain to Rolling Stone that Hawkins has indicated to Grohl and the management of Foo Fighters that they want to ‘scale back’ the number of performances. The fact that they subsequently agreed to continue touring, according to the anonymously stated people involved, is because Hawkins wanted to be ‘a team player’, but also because he was ‘pressured’ to play more shows. A Foo Fighters spokesperson denies these statements in the article.

Influential

Taylor Hawkins died at the end of March at the age of 50 in the Colombian capital Bogota. Colombian researchers found traces of ten different substances in his body, including THC (the active ingredient in marijuana), painkillers and antidepressants.

Foo Fighters was founded in 1995 by Dave Grohl, the former drummer of Nirvana. Hawkins joined the band two years later. The rock band, often described as one of the most influential ever, released a total of ten studio albums and won twelve Grammys.
