Singer of the metal band Nightwish Floor Jansen41, surprised his fans in March when he released his first solo single Fire.

Speculation sparked on social media, is the soprano leaving the Finnish success band?

In an interview with Iltalehti, the singer is amused by the question.

– I’m not leaving Nightwish, but this is a project I’m doing on the sidelines, Floor continues.

– I don’t participate in making Nightwish songs, so I have time left after the tours. Admittedly, many things have kept me busy at times like family life. We all have our own projects. As long as they don’t bother making Nightwish, I don’t see any problem in them, he inches.

Floor still remembers the pressures he faced when he joined the ranks of Nightwish ten years ago. Many expected the singer to take his place in the world as the frontrunner of a band that had reaped success.

– The most important thing is to stay on your own, because the world around you is constantly changing. Similarly, the music industry has changed considerably during this time.

– As a singer, it is also important to constantly challenge yourself. A little panic does good because it helps stay in the steel, the soprano says.

In March next year, Floor will release their first solo album.

On the toilet floor

Last spring, it was reported that Floor was hospitalized for pancreatitis and gallstones. As a result of the operation, his gallbladder, inside which 15 gallstones had been found, was removed.

– I had been sore for a long time at the time and thought it was due to stress. Just like someone put a knife in your stomach and turn it on. It was a really painful pain, Floor recalls.

The health problems also struck this spring, when Nightwish performed at the Nokia Arena in Tampere earlier in April. Floor had a nasty stomach upset.

– I lay on the floor of the hotel toilet and then thought about all the fans who are coming to the concert. At the same time, I am thinking of the hundreds of workers who have come to work so that we can perform. None of them could work if I stayed there lying on the floor.

The semi-functional Floor eventually appeared in the sold-out arena.

– That’s the Finnish guts we need, he laughs.

Balance

Floor, who is visiting Finland, will once again go on a world tour with Nightwish, which has had to be postponed several times due to the corona pandemic.

The soprano, who lives a busy everyday life, says he hopes that he will be able to maintain a balance with his private life and career.

Floor now lives with his family in the Swedish countryside near Gothenburg. Her and her husband Hannes Van Dahlin happiness was fulfilled in March 2017 when small Freja-daughter was born.

– As a mother, I want to spend time with my daughter. It’s normal for her to have the mother “just sing” and the mother’s way of singing is the way adults sing at all, Floor laughs.

Will the mother help her daughter if she dreams of a career as a singer?

– Of course I help him feel strong and confident. However, I am not going to pave the way for him. The most important thing is what he himself wants out of life. At this point, he is interested in Unicorns and all the glittering.
