Floor in Sneker sports hall too slippery: Sudosa-Desto’s match against VC Sneek is cancelled. ‘This is really very inconvenient’

In the volleyball competition, the Premier League match between the women of national champion VC Sneek and Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto was canceled on Wednesday. The floor of the sports hall in Sneek was too slippery and therefore too dangerous to play volleyball on.

On Wednesday afternoon at half past three, Sudosa-Desto coach Mark Afman received a phone call from Sneek that the match could not go ahead. “The floor is too slippery to play on. That is very annoying for everyone, including Sneek, but they should have informed us a little earlier. Especially when you know that training has not been possible in the hall all week. You live for a match like that.”

A taekwondo tournament that was held last weekend in the Sneker sports hall is the culprit. “They used a mat with a silicone underside, which made the solid floor very slippery,” explains team manager Stefan Rutgers of the Asser team.

“Sneek says that they are so professional and that may be true in many areas, but this is really very inconvenient. I think there are more sports halls in Sneek, or else you could have turned the match around. It would have been nicer if they had informed us earlier. Then we could have thought along with you.”

Competition fixing

Rutgers: “Now everyone thinks something about it. Our next opponent, on Saturday we play at home against Apollo 8, is already talking about competition distortion. But we can’t do anything about this.”

Coach Afman has no idea yet when the game will be made up. “But you understand that as far as we are concerned, this is not necessary in the short term.” The trainer/coach of the Asser club hopes to have his best outside attacker Manon Torenbeek available again in a few weeks, who is currently struggling with an ankle injury.
