The share of Flemish women who receive an episiotomy or ‘cut’ during childbirth has fallen sharply over the past ten years. This is evident from the annual report on births and deliveries in Flanders from the Study Center for Perinatal Epidemiology (SPE). In 2014 this concerned 50.4 percent of women, while last year it was only 27.6 percent. In Brussels and Wallonia the figures are even lower.
