Flat time trial to Rocamadour last test for Vingegaard

Before yellow jersey wearer Jonas Vingegaard and the other cyclists are allowed to ride the traditional final stage to the Champs-Élysées on Sunday, they have to work individually again. The twentieth stage is an individual time trial from Lacapelle-Marival to Rocamadour over an almost flat course of 40.7 kilometers. Only the last two kilometers are still increasing with an average of 7.8 percent.

It is the first time trial in the Tour after the opening time trial over 13 kilometers in Copenhagen. Yves Lampaert was surprisingly the best there. For the longer time trial, the eyes are on the specialists. Lampaert is also one of them, but it will mainly be his compatriot Wout van Aert, world champion Filippo Ganna and European time trial champion Stefan Küng. Van Aert won the time trial last year on the penultimate day of the Tour de France.

Vingegaard has a comfortable lead of 3.26 minutes over his first competitor, Tadej Pogacar. His margin is therefore much larger than the 57 seconds that his teammate Primoz Roglic of Jumbo-Visma had in 2020 before the climb time trial on the penultimate day. Then Pogacar made up for that margin and took over the yellow card to win his first Tour de France the next day.

Sprinter Caleb Ewan, the last number in the general classification, will start as the first rider at 1.05 pm. Vingegaard is the last to leave at 5 pm. His finish is expected between 5:45 PM and 5:55 PM.
