From the triple triumph of the “lion” Magni to those of Pogacar and Van der Poel: the path has changed: the epic is the same, the path is selective, and behind it there is a former Fortitudo pivot…
When Fiorenzo Magni took the train to reach Flanders, in those years Belgium meant above all suffering for the Italians. Physical pain in the coal mines, where thousands of our compatriots sacrificed themselves (and died, as in Marcinelle 1956) to give a present to their families. The future came later. Italians were on the edge of the world. Fiorenzo knew this very well, and on his bike he brought the redemption of a nation that instead, precisely on pedals, in the years of Coppi and Bartali, gave lessons to the world.
