Flanders closes all vaccination centers by the end of the year | inland

Flanders will close its vaccination centers by the end of the month. This is reported by Flemish Minister of Health Hilde Crevits (CD&V). The COVID vaccination will take place from January through the normal vaccination circuit, including through general practitioners.

It was one of the largest logistics operations since World War II. The way in which the broad vaccination campaigns have been set up in the various vaccination centers with the help of thousands of volunteers in recent years is seen as a success story.

Thanks to this success, according to Minister Crevits, Flanders has succeeded in “becoming one of the most vaccinated and therefore best protected regions in the world”. She thanked the employees of some 80 centers and the employees of the Agency for Care and Health during a closing moment in Brussels.

17.1 million injections in total

The numbers are also telling. By the end of November 2022, more than 17.1 million injections have been made in the vaccination centers. During the busiest week, June 7, 2021, a record number of 675,027 vaccines were administered. The record day was July 22, 2021 with 131,420 registered injections in all centers combined.

But after the autumn booster campaign, with the fourth shot for most people, it is time to close the vaccination centers. All centers will close by the end of the month.

The Agency for Care and Health will organize the COVID vaccination from January through the normal vaccination circuit: general practitioners, pharmacists, home nurses, occupational health services and the Growing Up Agency as the main vaccinators.

“We will certainly not forget the experiences gained over the past three years with these vaccination campaigns,” assures Minister Crevits. “That is why we are currently preparing a major vaccination conference, which will take place in the spring of 2024.”
