Bellegems Brood is a third-generation family business along the Walleweg in Bellegem, Kortrijk. A fire breaks out on Sunday evening while they are preheating the ovens in the bakery. The fire may have started in the flour attic.
The emergency services immediately arrived on the scene, but in the meantime the fire had already spread to the roof. In addition to water damage from extinguishing the fire, part of the roof also collapsed.
If the ovens are broken, this means a major investment for manager Dominique. He fears for the survival of the bakery, which has been baking bread since 1954 and also supplies to the Delhaize supermarket chain.
