Flames in Los Angeles spare Tom Hanks’ mansion

Miraculously, the fires raging in Los Angeles spared the estate of Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson also had to fear for their home. Whether it was pure luck or a miracle that the fire started in front of their home is anyone’s guess, but Hank and Wilson’s $25 million mansion was spared from the fire.

Aerial photos published by the New York Post show the “Forrest Gump” actor’s cliff-side property intact. However, the house directly above Hanks’ property wasn’t so lucky. Clouds of smoke rise from the walls, which were almost completely destroyed by the flames.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son, Chet Hanks, who grew up in Pacific Palisades, also commented on the fires via Instagram: “The neighborhood I grew up in is burning to the ground. Pray for the Palisades.”

Tom Hanks and his wife bought the mansion with nine lives 15 years ago. Before that, they lived in the same neighborhood, but in a more modest dwelling. As “Bild” reports, it was a Spanish-style villa built in 1929.

Fires continue to burn in Los Angeles

There have been fires in Los Angeles for days, numerous residents of the area have lost their homes and it doesn’t seem as if the fires will be brought under control soon. Pacific Palisades, the celebrity district, is among those severely affected. Many celebrities had to be evacuated, some were forced to watch live on TV as their million-dollar mansions were reduced to ashes. Those affected include Anna Faris, Fergie, Jamie Lee Curtis and the couple Leighton Meester and Adam Brody. Hotel heiress Paris Hilton also lost her Malibu Beach House to the flames. On Instagram she shares harrowing videos of herself trudging through the ruins of her former dream home.

The worst fires in California history

While Hanks and Wilson feel safe, the Palisades Fire between Malibu and Santa Monica in western Los Angeles, along with the Eaton Fire just outside Pasadena, are already among the most destructive fires in California history. An estimated 14,000 hectares of land have now burned. Strong winds and the ongoing extreme drought in the US state have further fueled the fires.
