A 39-year-old man from Weert has been sentenced to five months in prison for assault resulting in serious injury, threats and prohibited possession of weapons in a holiday home in Schoonloo.

The Brabander stayed there with a friend, also from Brabant. Their four-year relationship had now come to an end, the man said. She had temporary accommodation with him, otherwise she would be on the street. But according to him, the atmosphere had not improved. Things deteriorated even more when he discovered a new love in Veendam.

On Wednesday, April 30 last year, the woman knocked on the window of the reception of the park in Schoonloo in the early evening. The employees saw that the woman looked poorly groomed and had a black eye.

The woman said she had been hit by her boyfriend. She was also threatened with a gun. The suspect strongly denies this.

Ultimately, the woman reportedly had surgery on the eye and now wears an artificial eye. She submitted medical data as proof. But she did not want inquiries to be made from doctors who would have treated her.

She also did not come to court. The suspect was able to explain this: “She put the papers together herself. She also did the black eye herself.”

The public prosecutor believes that it can be proven that the woman was abused by the suspect. During the conversation with the woman, the employees noticed that her eye became increasingly bluer and bluer. The accuser finds it unbelievable that she did this herself. In addition, messages in threatening language were sent to the woman.

In a garbage barrel in front of the chalet in Schoonoord, the officers found an indistinguishable fake weapon. According to the woman, the weapon had been purchased in Germany a few weeks earlier. She had to hide it in her underpants during the ride to the Netherlands. The receipt for the purchase was also in the bucket.

At the beginning of May, the suspect stayed at a recreational park in Hoogersmilde. Despite the contact ban, the man allegedly sent the woman threatening messages. The man denies: “They were also made by her to trick me.” The complainant submitted a claim for damages of almost 50,000 euros. The public prosecutor finds 750 euros to be allocated.

The suspect has been psychologically examined, but due to his attitude no advice has been given. The probation service suggested that a treatment plan be drawn up. The public prosecutor sees no chance of success and ignores this advice. “This can also be done on a voluntary basis.”

The court will make its ruling on February 17.
