The first assessment of the respite from Transport Senator Manja Schreiner (45, CDU): Of 11 cycle path projects on main roads, only six are actually commissioned – five are not initially built.

For three weeks, the new CDU traffic senator reviewed important plans of the districts and her predecessor Bettina Jarasch (54, Greens). After road safety, safety on the way to school, good traffic flow, no high loss of parking spaces, public transport, quick passage of the police and fire brigade.
Priority was given to eleven main road projects, construction of which should begin in the next three months.

► Be built: Opernroute (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf), Michaelbrücke, Scharnweberstraße and Schlesische Straße – Köpenicker Straße – Bethaniendamm – Obere Freiarchenbrücke (Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg), Scheffelstraße – Möllendorfstraße – S-Bahn bridge (Lichtenberg), Gülzower-, Gutenberg- and Hellersdorfer Straße (Marzahn-Hellersdorf ).
► Not to be built initially: Sonnenallee, Krebsgang district border (Neukölln) +++ Stubenrauchstrasse (Neukölln) +++ Siegfriedstrasse, Bornitzstrasse, Rüdigerstrasse (Lichtenberg) +++ Berliner Strasse, Grunewaldstrasse, Blissestrasse, Bamberger Strasse +++ Hauptstrasse, Dominicusstrasse, Kleistpark (all in Schöneberg) .
For these five stopped routes, further investigations are to clarify the effects of the planned cycle paths, disadvantages on foot traffic, public transport, commercial and heavy goods traffic. It is also about a new assessment of the performance of intersections with a changed number of lanes. The environmental impact of more congestion also plays a role.
“We can deliver as discussed,” said Senator Schreiner on her first test balance. “It was not transport policy ideology that led to the decisions, but solely the tolerability for all road users.”
The district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg has now had its legal office review the planning ban on cycle paths by the Senate. “The state budgetary regulations do not provide for a temporary suspension,” said district mayor Clara Herrmann (38, Greens).
The procedure would also contradict the budget law. She criticized the Senate’s start as chaotic and called for the funds to be released.
