Fishing opportunities agreement 2023

The Member States of the European Union (EU) have today concluded an agreement on fishing opportunities for sea fisheries in 2023. The agreement clarifies how much fishermen in the EU Member States are allowed to catch per fish stock. Negotiations with the United Kingdom on fishing opportunities for next year have not yet been completed. Therefore, temporary fishing opportunities for the first quarter of 2023 have been set. On this basis, the fishing industry can fish from 1 January. EU member states have also decided that silver eel and glass eel may not be fished for 6 months in the coming year. These measures are intended to help restore eel stocks.
