Fourteen members of the same fishing association have been fishing for a hundred years in the same Visplas near Eext. Who the members are changes every now and then, but that is subject to strict rules, according to chairman Jans Pepping. “In terms of number of members, we simply hold on to the first regulations.”
Not all minutes can still be found a hundred years later, but Pepping knows the founding story. This is about a hunting party that ends with gin which results in the transfer of the lake to a new owner. “There is nothing more to be found about the founding and why they did what they did. But in the end they decided to admit seven members from Gieten and seven members from Eext. And in 1925, 4 September the association was founded as a fishing club Gieten Eext.”
Seven members from Gieten and Zeven from Eext. A member from Gieten must therefore wait for another member to leave Gieten. If a member from Eext boards, that does not help. In the meantime, prospective members are now also welcome. “A bit of a reserve bench” confirms the chairman.
Initially, only members were also allowed to fish in the lake, but now also daily passes and annual permits are available at the association. The current members mainly praise the peace and nature around the lake. The chairman also sees that lake as their legacy of previous members. “Leave that puddle nice, let it be beautiful here and let fishermen enjoy nature. Make sure there is a beautiful fish stock so that people can catch a fish. You want to continue that.”
