Gender tests will also be carried out in skiing in the future.

As the International Ski Association FIS decided, only athletes may participate in women’s competitions if a so-called Sry Gentest has provided the gender “female” as a result. Such controls already exist in boxing and in athletics.

“This directive is the cornerstone of our commitment to protect women,” said FIS President Johan Eliasch after the decision of the Council: “We are convinced that there is only a fair and transparent way: by relying on scientific and biological facts.”

The FIS tests for the Sry gene, which is part of the Y chromosome and causes the development of male characteristics. In athletics, long jumper Malaika Mihambo had brought sharp criticism of the introduction.

In boxing, Olympic champion IMANE KHELIF, who was the focus of a gender debate during the games in Paris, was drawn to the International Sports Court of CAS.
