SpaceX signs Starlink deal with US airline JSX
Internet service in the plane should be available from the end of the year
WiFi for the airspace: new market for SpaceX
SpaceX finalizes first Starlink deal with an airline
As the US airline JSX announced via Twitter, it is the first airline to offer Starlink internet on board. “JSX is proud to be the first airline to launch @SpaceX Starlink internet onboard for every customer free of charge. We would call it the best WiFi in the sky, but it’s actually the best WiFi in the galaxy,” stated the company in the tweet. The company’s CEO, Alex Wilcox, told CNBC that the new agreement with SpaceX covers service on up to 100 aircraft. Currently, 77 30-seat Embraer jets are part of the JSX fleet.
JSX is proud to be the first air carrier to adopt @SpaceX Starlink internet inflight, free for every customer onboard. Wed call it the best Wi-Fi in the sky, but its actually the greatest Wi-Fi in the galaxy – coming later this year. #Starlink #SpaceX #FlyJSX @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/u3ZrkF3Xs7

Passengers should have Internet on the plane from the end of 2022
The aircraft service offered by SpaceX has yet to be approved by regulators, but Wilcox expressed confidence that the service will be available from late 2022. Wilcox declined to discuss the financial details of the deal with CNBC, but stressed that the Starlink service will be provided to passengers free of charge, with no login screen required to access the network. Starlink on JSX “will be just like home, only faster,” according to Wilcox.
SpaceX enters the in-flight Wi-Fi market
More than a year ago, the aerospace and telecommunications company led by Elon Musk began developing an aviation-specific version of its Starlink antenna and terminal. To date, the company has already launched 2,000 Starlink satellites to support its global network. In addition, Starlink already has 250,000 subscribers worldwide, including both private and business customers. With the JSX deal, SpaceX is now entering the inflight WiFi market. According to Golem, other interested parties among the aviation companies should also include the US airline Delta.
