The English record champions Manchester United have lost important points in the Premier League title race despite catching up. Former Dortmund player Jadon Sancho scored his first league goal since September 2022 against Leeds United in the 70th minute to make it 2-2 (0-1). Previously, Marcus Rashford had reduced in the 62nd minute. The Peacocks, who parted ways with coach Jesse Marsch during the week, went without a win for their eighth straight league game.
Wilfried Gnonto, who came from Zurich in the summer, gave Leeds the lead after just a few seconds, and after an own goal by Frenchman Raphaël Varane (48th), who had just retired from the French national team, it was even 0:2 at times. Winter signing Marcel Sabitzer made his second league appearance at Manchester and played a total of 82 minutes.
United now have 43 points from 22 games, seven adrift of leaders Arsenal, who have two games in hand. Champions Manchester City are second with 45 points. Leeds meanwhile, with 19 points, are just one point ahead of the relegation zone (to the Premier League table).
