First redundancies known at Philips, EPD department in Best must stop

Fifty employees of Philips have already been told on Monday afternoon that they have to leave the medical technology company, FNV director Hans Wijers reports. Philips has to reorganize considerably, a total of 1100 jobs in the Netherlands are at risk, of which 700 to 750 in Brabant. The first fifty redundancies will be in Best, in the EPD Solutions department.

Philips employees heard about the reorganization at their employer through the media on Monday morning. A staff meeting followed in the afternoon. The FNV director heard the news of the first redundancies late in the afternoon.

“We didn’t know about this before. This department has already been put up for sale, but Philips did not lose it. The people who work in this department have been told that their department is closing,” said Wijers. Fifty people work in this department in Best. There are also a hundred EPD employees in Israel who are losing their jobs.

Job market
This concerns the EPD Solutions department. The company is known for an innovative technology that makes it possible to create a 3D image of the cardiovascular system. Philips took over the company in 2018.

The fifty employees fall under the central social plan. This plan contains all the rules that the employer and employee must go through in order to achieve a dismissal. Then it concerns matters such as a severance payment. A job market is also held in April or May for the dismissed employees, together with companies in the region. These people can then become acquainted with positions that are available at these companies.”

Meetings per department will be held for all other Philips employees in the near future, Wijers reports. “According to the timeline outlined today, everyone should know by mid-April whether or not there is a place for them.”
