The Eisbären Berlin received a first damper in the quarter -finals of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

On Friday evening, the capitals against the Straubing Tigers lost 1: 2 (0: 0, 1: 0, 0: 2). In the best-of-Seven series, the Berliners are now only 2-1 ahead. Liam Kirk scored the only hit by the capitals that gave the game out of hand in the final third.

In front of 14,200 spectators in the sold -out arena at the Ostbahnhof, the two teams fought a largely balanced kick -off third, but were unable to use their few clear chances.

The Berliners gamble a 1-0 lead in the final third

Shortly after the first break, the Berliners benefited from a mistake by the guests. After a puck loss of the Straubinger in his own zone, Frederik Tiffels played a clever cross pass on Kirk, which was successful in the 22nd minute with a diagonal shot.

After that, the encounter became more heated. Numerous handicaps and time penalty kept interrupting the game flow. That used the happiness until then. In the final section, the Straubinger turned the result through goals by Michael Connolly (42nd) and Philip Samuelsson (46.) in their favor. The Berliners pushed to equalize in the remaining minutes, but could no longer avert the defeat.
