The last time the mercury dropped below -5 degrees, which characterizes moderate frost, was almost a year ago. On January 21, the temperature in Ell, Limburg, dropped to -5.8 degrees.
The earliest date that moderate frost occurred anywhere in the country is October 7. In 1912 it was -5.7 degrees in Winterswijk. There has never been a winter season in which there was no moderate frost anywhere.
