First goal Giousis not enough for full Telstar loot

History repeated itself for Telstar on Friday night. Just like against VVV-Venlo, the team handed over a victory in the final phase. Goals from David Min and Christos Giousis proved insufficient against Jong FC Utrecht: 2-2.

In advance, goals seemed no certainty at Telstar against Jong FC Utrecht. Both teams have scored just six times in eight games. However, nothing turned out to be less true. The first dangerous ball was for the White Lions. Christos Giousis shot straight into Calvin Raatsie’s hands from a distance. It was David Min, who broke the spell after twelve minutes. Tom Overtoom tricked Rick Meissen in the preparation and got the ball at Min. The striker did not hesitate for a moment and scored behind Raatsie: 1-0.

A few minutes later, Raatsie almost helped Telstar into the saddle. The goalie let a back pass slip under his foot. He was lucky that the ball rolled right next to the goal. Young Utrecht had a good chance via a shot from David Rijks that changed direction. Ronald Koeman Jr. could save well.

Win out of your hands

Jong Utrecht equalized from the penalty spot in the second half. Jozhua Familiar went down in the penalty area, after which Derensili Sanches Fernandes scored: 1-1. Telstar immediately struck again and was accurate through Christos Giousis. The Greek shot the ball hard with the left into the goal: 2-1. That was his first for the Velsenaren. Giousis should also have made the 3-1, but he failed face to face with Raatsie.

Those missed opportunities cost the home team dearly. First Telstar had a good opportunity through Koen Blommestijn, but in the counterattack it was equal. Substitute Lynden Edhart scored the equalizer: 2-2. Albert Lottin was shown red in the final phase for a striking movement, but that did not change the result.

Telstar remains in fourteenth place due to the draw. Next week, Jong PSV will be the opponent.

Setup Telstar: Koeman; Kruiver (Liesdek/89), Apau, Aktas, Blackson (Mulder/89), Oude Kotte; Najah (Van de Heerik/91), Overtoom, Giousis; Flat, Min (Blommestijn/74)
