First full Easter holiday since corona attracts 340,000 visitors to Bruges

“We will probably knock on Easter Monday at 340,000 visitors,” says alderman of Tourism Mieke Hoste. This means that the recovery in the figures has clearly started.

The first Easter holiday without corona measures is almost complete and it immediately brought a lot more visitors to Bruges. “In the past two years, international passenger traffic to our country was not possible during the Easter period. This year it was possible again and that is evident in the historic city center,” according to the Bruges Alderman of Tourism. After the holidays, Bruges will probably be close to around 340,000 visitors. That number is 75 percent of the number of visitors during the Easter holidays before the corona crisis. “The majority of our visitors are still Belgians, which is atypical for Bruges. But foreign visitors are also gradually finding their way again, especially from neighboring countries.”

The revival of tourism is also proving to be a good thing for the hotel sector. It records an average occupancy of sixty percent during the Easter holidays. “Such an occupation was not achieved in recent months. The upcoming holiday periods in the neighboring countries in the weeks following our Easter holidays suggest that we will be able to finish the month of April with an even higher occupation,” says the mayor of Bruges, Dirk De faw
