Volt first congress after split fraction in House of Representatives
The political party Volt will meet for the first time on Sunday for a congress since the faction fell apart in the House of Representatives. In Den Bosch, members can give their opinion about the approach of the party top.
Member of Parliament Nilüfer Gündoğan was suspended in mid-February after reports of transgressive behaviour. She went to court and he whistled the party back, but Gündoğan was eventually expelled from the party halfway through last month.
There was criticism of the actions of the party leadership. The judge ruled that Volt “went too expeditiously on the wrong path in the whole affair”. Party chairman Laurens Dassen did not come across as decisive. He said he should have intervened sooner.
The pro-European party saw a significant gain in the polls, but plummeted after the outbreak of the conflict. However, the damage was not so bad in the municipal elections in March. Volt won seats in all ten municipalities in which it competed. There is even a chance that the party will come to the board in some cities, including Maastricht.
