First acquisition FC Volendam is a young talented keeper of Werder Bremen

FC Volendam has registered the first new player for next season. Mio Backhaus comes over from Werder Bremen. The 19-year-old goalkeeper is hired for one season from the German club, where he played his second team and Under 19 games.

Backhaus is known in Germany as a goalkeeper talent. He went through several youth teams of the German national team. Currently Backhaus plays in the Under 19 of Germany. He also has Japanese nationality. That means that he could also play for the Asian country. In the Under 15, he played one game for Japan.

“I am very happy with this opportunity and grateful for the trust,” said Backhaus at the website of FC Volendam. “The conversations with the technical management of FC Volendam were very positive and I will give 100 percent to help the team. I am super motivated to do my part so that the fans can enjoy our performance as much as possible. I can’t wait to be in goal for the first time and enjoy successes with the team.”

Last week, technical director Jasper van Leeuwen confirmed that he would add a goalkeeper to the selection in the short term. “Mio is very talented; it is not for nothing that he is coveted by two football countries. He has excellent physical conditions, is almost two-legged and dares to look for the footballing solution. Those are qualities that suit us well.”
