Firnhaber moves into the formal DHB squad

Bratislava (dpa) – Shortly before the start of the European Championship for German handball players, Sebastian Firnhaber has also moved into the formal DHB selection for the finals in Hungary and Slovakia.

The circuit runner from Bundesliga club HC Erlangen is initially available on call at home, but could be used at short notice by national coach Alfred Gislason if necessary.

With the subsequent nomination, Gislason reacted to the failure of the injured cyclist Jannik Kohlbacher for the entire preliminary round. In the event of a vacancy in this position during the tournament, for which captain Johannes Golla and veteran Patrick Wiencek are currently planned, Firnhaber could step in immediately.

The DHB selection will play their first round game this Friday (6 p.m. / ARD) against Belarus. Other opponents in Group D are Austria and Poland.
