“I’ll let the house burn down, everything will go up in the air.” That was the last thing Hüseyin A. from Lieshout said to his ex in May 2023 after she broke off their relationship. According to the public prosecutor, the 40-year-old man put his money where his mouth was a year later by exploding a fireworks bomb at the house of his former partner in Best. That is why a prison sentence of four years was demanded at the court in Den Bosch on Tuesday.
The explosion happened on March 1, 2024, around half past four in the morning. A bottle of gasoline and a Super Cobra 6 were set on fire. A window at the front door and a tile were severely damaged. The sill and the front door were damaged.
‘Ex was behind attack’
A woman who was home at the time and her nineteen-year-old daughter, who was sleeping with her, were not injured. They were shocked by the loud bang. According to the woman, her ex must have been behind the attack.
After more than four years, she had put an end to the toxic relationship with A. and, she told the police, knew one enemy: “That is one thousand percent definitely my ex.” That was the man who stood before the judge on Tuesday.
The woman also stated that A. had other people (‘junks’) to do these kinds of jobs. That turns out to have been a 54-year-old Eindhoven resident. Last September, the court in Den Bosch gave him a 36-month prison sentence, six of which were conditional. The consequences of the blow could have been much worse, because at the last moment the man disconnected two Cobras and did not fire them.
Drug world
The attacker and A. know each other from the drug world. A. denies that he gave the order to have the fireworks bomb placed and set off. He actually felt threatened.
According to A., the attack was aimed at him: the perpetrator would have thought that A. was still with his ex. He wanted revenge because he was not satisfied with drugs that A. had supplied him with. In addition, too much was allegedly paid for narcotics that he had taken from the man from Lieshout.
Lots of evidence
The public prosecutor does not believe A.’s story. He attaches great importance to the statement of the convicted Eindhove resident. Moreover, according to him, evidence has been found in messages on WhatsApp and Telegram around March 1, 2024. A. has ‘arranged’ everything and risked the lives of his ex and her daughter.
The officer also considered it proven that A. assaulted his ex in May 2023 and threatened him with death. He spoke of ‘worrying violence against women’. It was not the first time that the woman felt unsafe: A. was highly flammable and allegedly threatened her several times. This is in line with his extensive criminal record, which includes various crimes, such as human trafficking, rape and assault. He was convicted for the first time as a 14-year-old.
‘Wounded ego’
An attorney read a statement on behalf of the victim. “The word femicide was invented for this man: he decided everything and had a damaged ego.” A.’s ex hopes for an appropriate punishment and a restraining order. She and her daughter also believe they are entitled to compensation.
The Public Prosecution Service agrees with this. The officer also demanded that A. not be allowed to contact his ex and her daughter for five years. In two weeks A. will hear the judge’s ruling.
The neighborhood was startled by a loud bang:
