Firefighters rescue a mountaineer with severe hypothermia in Aigüestortes

The Generalitat Fire Brigade rescued a hiker with severe hypothermia this Saturday morning in the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees and straddling the municipalities of Valle de Boí and Espot. The woman has spent the night in the open with two companions in the area of ​​the port of Ratera, at 2,550 meters above sea level. They planned to reach the Amitges refuge, but they did not succeed.

The Firefighters received the notice of the incident at 11:06 a.m. and went to the place –next to Pico de Saboredo and within the municipality of Espot (Pallars Sobirà)– to rescue the three hikers. The victim with severe hypothermia was evacuated by helicopter and transferred to the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida.
