New Year’s Eve, the fire brigade was already busy with various fires in our province, the deployment of the firefighters also continued all night in various places in Drenthe.
For example, a fire was discovered just before four last night at a barn on the Hortensiastraat in Assen. Firefighters were unable to prevent the barn from going up in flames. The cause of this fire is not yet known.
This applies to several fires that were reported during the night. For example, a barn fire was reported at the Brasemstraat in Assen and that also happened at the Lemenweg in Drouwen. In Meppel and Hoogeveen, among others, the fire brigade was called in for a container fire. People also called the fire brigade for outdoor and waste fires, which was the case in Eelderwolde, Emmen, Assen and Hoogeveen, among others.
In Drenthe, several car fires were also reported in the night after the turn of the year. For example, the fire brigade in Coevorden had to come into action twice for fires in cars. That was on the Johannes Vermeerstraat and also at the Drostenhal sports hall. Other places where the fire brigade was called for car fires are on the Tramstraat in Schoonoord, the Eendenveld in Emmen and the Smetanalaan in Assen. The extent of the damage from these fires is not known.
