The fire brigade received a report from local residents around 9.45 pm about a fierce fire in the former hospital on the corner of Meensesteenweg and Wilgenstraat. The building has been vacant for some time and is part of a future construction site.
The fire started on the sixth floor, also the highest floor of the building. Due to the fire, the area was temporarily closed to traffic so that the emergency services could do their work safely.
