Two homes on Albert Steenbergenstraat in Hoogeveen were damaged by a fire last night. Two people were checked by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out just after midnight in a terraced house. Several fire brigades from the area were called to help extinguish the fire. Apart from the fire brigade in Hoogeveen, help also came from Zuidwolde, Beilen and Ruinen.

Due to the size of the fire, several homes were evacuated. The police closed the street to give emergency services space to do their work.

Nothing is yet known about the cause.
