The fire in a data center in Almere on Thursday exposed more than just a technical problem. From public transport to educational institutions: systems malfunctioned in all kinds of places. One fire at one location was enough to show how dependent the Netherlands has become on digital infrastructure. “Sometimes it is a good thing that something goes wrong,” says Lokke Moerel, member of the Cyber Security Council (CSR) and professor of new technology and law. “Then everyone wakes up again.”
