The first reports of the fire came in around 3:45 p.m. The fire brigade soon scaled up to a ‘major fire’, mainly to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes. A water truck and an aerial platform, among other things, were present so that the fire could possibly be extinguished from above, the North Holland North Safety Region said. The fire was under control around 8:15 p.m.
An ambulance was also called because the resident suffered smoke inhalation. The resident was transported to the doctor on the island for further treatment, a spokesperson for the safety region said.
