The fire brigade is working to extinguish a blazing fire in Stadskanaal. The Groningen fire brigade warns of the large amount of smoke released by the fire.
The fire raged in a wood storage facility on Drouwenstraat and spread to a home. “If you are bothered by smoke, close windows and doors and switch off ventilation systems if possible,” the fire brigade reports on X.
The fire brigade is calling it a major fire and has scaled up emergency services. Two nearby homes have been evacuated.
According to a spokesperson for the Groningen safety region, the fire is said to have started in a former timber yard that now serves as a wood storage facility. The fire brigade is trying to prevent the fire from reaching other homes in the area.
