The fire brigade was pulled out on Wednesday evening after a report of a fire in Drunen in the canteen of football club RKDVC. The fire itself was not too bad, but a few hundred people had to be sent home.

The fire brigade was called in after the fire alarm went off. A small fire appeared to have been created in the ceiling. “The damage is quite minimal. There is a scorching place in the ceiling,” says youth competition secretary Martien Elshout.

As a precaution, the fire brigade scaled up to a medium fire, but that turned out not to be necessary. “The children really featured themselves. The moment the fire brigade arrived, it was just like a change in change,” says the youth competition secretary.

Because some training sessions had ended and the following training sessions were about to start, it was busy with cars in the Krable Sportlaan. As a result, it took a while before the fire brigade arrived at the canteen.

The fire brigade had to switch off the power after the fire, so all football training sessions were suddenly over. The football players were sent home when the peace had returned somewhat.

“The trainer of the first team wrapped his coat around a player from the G-team.”

RKDVC chairman Thijs Fokker is happy that it ended with a Sisser and is proud of the volunteers of his association. “Within fifteen minutes there were twenty volunteers from the canteen to record the damage. And the trainer of the first team wrapped his coat around a player from the G-team because he was cold,” says Fokker proudly.

In contrast to the fire in the canteen, the news about it did spread like a running fire. In no time, the alderman of the municipality of Heusden called to convey the support of the entire municipal administration. The chairman is happy that it all ended with a sisser. “Because it is also our anniversary year,” laughs Fokker.
