Around 9.15 am, the Westhoek fire brigade received a call to clean the road in the vicinity of Guynemerplein and Brugseweg. Initially it was referred to as mashed potatoes, but on the spot it turned out to be spinach that was spread over a considerable piece of the road, from the church to the roundabout towards Ypres.

Because the slurry had spread over a large route, reinforcement was also made from the Zonbeke fire station shortly before 10 hours. The fire brigade cleaned the road surface to guarantee road safety.

Whoever lost the load or where exactly it came from is not clear for the time being.
