Fire at waste processing company Vandewiele in Gistel caused by explosion in a machine
Now that the fire is out, the metal roof that has collapsed is being removed. After that, the fire brigade can continue to extinguish the wood that is still in the shed. It is not yet clear how long that will take.
Meanwhile, 15 families from the yellow zone can return to their homes, after measurements by the fire brigade showed that it is safe there. For 10 families from the blue zone, it will have to wait until this afternoon.

Initial findings and camera images show that the fire was caused by an explosion in a machine. The municipality will invite the province that granted the permit to investigate whether everything went smoothly here.
