From Lappeenranta Visa recently visited American comedian-host Conan O’Brien’s podcast show Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.

O’Brien has interviewed people from all over the world in his podcast. When Conan heard that Visa was from Finland, he got excited.

– Finland is close to my heart. I visited Finland years ago. It was one of the joys of my life to get to Finland, O’Brien stated.

O’Brien asked the Finn if he lived in Helsinki. To the comedian’s surprise, Visa said he was from Lappeenranta.

– LAP-PEEN-LAN-DA, O’Brien and his host friend repeated a strange word to American ears.

In the end, however, O’Brien stated that pronouncing the name of a Finnish city is too difficult a task.

– This broke him, Conan’s co-hosts joked.

– I can’t continue. I will never do a podcast again, O’Brien stated with amusement.

Conan O’Brien told Visa that he also knows that “Korskenkova” is drunk in Finland. The Finn praised the American comedian’s knowledge of Finland, but corrected a small mistake in pronunciation.

– The letter R comes later in the word, Visa said.

In the end, the American comedians managed to pronounce the name of the well-known Finnish drink quite fluently.

The affection for Finland can be seen in traffic

When talking about Finland, Conan revealed that the country has an important place in the American man’s heart. There are two stickers on the rear bumper of his car, one of which is a Suomi sticker. Another of the stickers represents Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the state of North Dakota.

– I show my affection for Finland with a sticker on the back bumper of my car. Finland is the only country whose sticker I have glued to my car, O’Brien revealed.

Visa said that he is a long-time fan of Conan O’Brien and has followed his career for 20 years since the days of the Late Night with Conan O’Brien talk show.

In addition, Visa told the American comedian that he likes saunas. Conan said that the Finnish way of pronouncing the word “sauna” is better than the American way of pronouncing “soona”.

– Did you invent the sauna yourself and can therefore call it whatever you want, one of the presenters asked Visa. To this the Finn replied:

– The Russians have “banja”, the Swedes have “bastu” and we Finns have “sauna”. We think that our sauna is the original one, Visa informed the presenters.

However, Conan wondered about open swimming. He wondered if it is true that Finns sit in the sauna until they leave, until they jump into the ice-cold water.

– Yes. [Veden] the temperature is about 4 degrees Celsius, Visa replied.

Conan asked if you can die from visiting the open air. Visa replied that in some cases open swimming can be life-threatening, which prompted one of the presenters to rename open swimming as “Finnish roulette”.

After the jokes, Conan ended his podcast episode by saying that he likes Finland and Finns very much.

– Tell the Finns that you are close to my heart. My time in Finland was amazing and I can’t wait to get back.
